When I found out that a white woman was just named Miss Hampton University, I was ticked. I hate that a white women are held above black women, even in a black University. In every area in life, black women are told that we are inadequate. In other beauty pageants, we see a sea of white faces. When we turn on the TV, we she extremely light skinned, Hispanic, or even white women portraying black women (unless of course it is a ghetto black woman). Even in black dominated rap and hip hop, Hispanic and light-skin are taking black places. This is why it is disheartening that even in a predominately black beauty pageant, sisters don't have a chance to shine. Is there one place where black women are safe from white privilege and can be appreciated?
Even though Europeans are the standard of beauty, I'm usually not annoyed by this. However, I believe that there is a breaking point to everything. I can see sisters around me, desperately looking for validation because they recognize that, as black women, they are outcast in society. Black girls as young as 4 or 5 are picking up on this, and it is affecting their self-image. (Sisters, I think we all can remember playing with a towel, and pretending it was our hair as young children. It's even worse for girls growing up in '09.) This is why this story concerns me.
Really Alienated Conclusions has a good discussion about this. Be sure to check it out. You won't regret it. http://nerdsevolving.blogspot.com/2009/08/what-black-women-were-white-women.html

So acceptance and tolerance is only ok when it is whites accepting blacks? why can't it be the other way around? You also failed to note that she was the first white Ms. Hampton. You speak as if this historically black university awards the Ms. Hampton crown to white and hispanic women every year. You must be a seriously bitter person. DAMN!!
You yourself said that "white women have always been sexy." I'm not going to pretend that white people and black people are on level playing fields in this country. White women have women have always been portrayed as goddesses, while Black women have been reduced to Aunt Jemimas. Why should I settle for that? Why shouldn't Black women be uplifted for a change?
Afrika, like most Black men, pretends that this is no big deal because to him he sees nothing more than a "light skinned straight haired woman that felt comfortable enough to go to a black school so she might be open to interracially dating him!"
However, when the show is on the other foot and you see websites/places where the non-black women EXCLUDE black men for dating purposes you'll find that they become much more liberal about WHITE STANDARDS OF ACCEPTANCE.
For the past 5 years I have witness black men like Afriki, moan and complain about non-black women excluding them on internet datin g sites. They are absolutely livid about White men being accepted everywhere by every one no matter how ugly, old or fat he is! The problem is, they only acknowlege this when it concerns themselves!
There is a real self hatred issue in the AA community that needs to be addressed. One I'mm sure being the Black students at the school were probably simply honored at having a "White person" not turn their nose up at going to their school. Secondly how many black people don't find any mediocre white features attractive over black ones?
